Nitrogen Booster Compressor Shipped to China

Generon® IGS Designs Portable System for Henan Oil Field

Houston, Texas May 5, 2009 - Generon® IGS, an affiliate of Innovative Gas Systems, has shipped a large custom packaged Nitrogen Booster Compressor. The package, built for Generon’s sister company SMC in Chengdu, China. SMC will incorporate the booster with a feed air compressor and PSA Nitrogen for delivery to CNPC in the Henan oil field. The complete system will be portable and powered by diesel gen-sets. Because of the portability requirement, the package was specifically designed to be less than 7’4” (2.25M) wide and less than 7’4” (2.25M) tall.

The booster is driven by a 300hp (224 kW) Siemens electric motor thru a resilient coupling and a compressor mounted flywheel. The coupling was chosen for it’s tolerance of misalignment – a significant factor for equipment that will be moved frequently. The motor is controlled with a Baldor variable frequency drive that provides both a soft start with minimal inrush and speed control from 1200 to 1800rpm. The VFD can be powered with 50 or 60 Hz.

The compressor is a GE A352 model with 4 stages of compression. The 2 throw horizontal balanced opposed frame has a 3.5 inch (88.9mm) stroke. The frame has a shaft driven oil pump providing pressurized lubrication to the bearings and crossheads. Generon supplemented the basic lubrication system with a prelube pump, pre-heater, temperature control thermostat, level control and an oil cooler section integrated with the main cooler. The 4 stages of compression boost 600SCFM (1000 NM3/hr) of high purity Nitrogen from 109psig (7.5 BarG) to 3600 psig (250 BarG).

The booster package included an ACE Model C48-M6 fin/fan inter and aftercooler, a PLC control panel and automated isolation valving with recycle pressure control. The control system provides for automatic purge, pre-lube, post lube, block in and blow down. The capacity control system varies speed and recycle to maintain the desired discharge pressure and protect the compressor from upstream or downstream process upsets.

The completed package was given a full load full speed performance test on Nitrogen at Generon’s Houston facility prior to shipment to China.
